THE MISSING LINK
(Commissioned by Elizabeth Bain)
The gap in our genealogy and a reminder of our growing aloofness from nature.
Life implies birth, which commonly takes place through eggs (bottom of the sculpture) and through the female's reproductive system -- the womb and swollen genitalia of the standing anthropoid figure who has just given birth to a baby and tenderly protects him under her bosom. In the center, both mother and child grow horns becoming different species. The piece also shows Mother Nature in a blissful pose displaying a bird of lavish plumage, the pelvis of a pregnant woman, and a lily. Occasionally the figure may look malicious; but this menacing appearance is simply the modern incarnation of our history (center).
